Theo y Matias – The Dynamic Duo of Majorca

Playa del Portal Vells

Hola Majorca (aka Mallorca) we were so happy to see you!

After a marathon day in Barcelona we knew we would all be ready for a relaxing beach day. None of us knew much about Mallorca and all of the tour operators were pushing catamaran booze cruises and sunset dinner cruises. We agreed to wing it since so much of our trip was planned to a T. But that all went out the door when I met Debbie & Hugh, cruisers from Miami by way of London at the pool after my water aerobics class. The two of them shared that the transportation in Palma was a mess and told us that we needed to get a private transfer from the port and a planned tour. Yikes! My sister-in-law and I rushed to the coffee shop on board and began scouring GetYourGuide, TripAdvisor, Booking, Viator & Airbnb Experiences, praying for a last minute miracle!

GoFurGo Mallorca and the dynamic duo of Theo and Matias came through for us in a huge way! The two Argentinian ex-pats have made Mallorca home for nearly a decade; two former fútbol players who idolize Maradona and Messi, love music that feeds the soul, and live for the good vibes. As Gus so astutely said, “their energy was so positive and infectious,” that they really set the tone for the entire day. We also happened to find them both very attractive, which was a bonus!

As we cruised from the port to the Cathedral, the largest in Europe near the water, and a Castle on the Hill, we rocked out to Jungle, Royel Otis, Hall & Oates, Bob Marley, CCR, and a sick cover of a 90s classic, Linger. Nonna even enjoyed a house cover of Teddy Swims! In two VW vans, we enjoyed the cool air and the island vibes that surrounded us.

Knowing that we wanted to maximize our time at the beach, T & M suggested a beach picnic, which we all were excited about! We headed to Aldi to shop for fixings to make sandwiches, and the most important item, Rosa Blanca, a hoppy delight, perfect for beach-sipping. Did you know Aldi is the brother to Trader Joe’s – you would love it Jen Doane!

We traversed through beachside terrain and a beautiful golf course before being dropped into a secluded little inlet, Playa del Portal Vells, whose azure blue, turquoise, and aquamarine waters had me salivating for a float! We schlepped our coolers, umbrellas, and towels to a nice patch of sand and once set up, raced to the water of the Balearic Sea, a salty and buoyant delight!

We spent many hours floating, cliff jumping (boys only), stand up paddle boarding, frisbee throwing, ball tossing, and simply soaking up the Mediterranean Sun! When our bellies rumbled we made sandwiches of Ibérico ham and manchego cheese with cherries, grapes, and a few chips, washing it all down with Rosa Blanca. What a life!

I loved capturing these next three photos as the natural environment made them absolutely stunning visually, and the subjects are pretty cute too!

My favorite part of traveling is experiencing serendipitous moments when strolling through a new city, stumbling upon a great bar, bookshop, cafe, or church. Our day in Majorca was just that, it was absolutely unexpected and equally magical. Theo & Matias were just the guides we needed to sit back, relax, and soak up the sun and good vibes.

Carrying the lemon theme through once more; we were handed lemons and, together, made some mighty fine limoncello 🍋! A surprisingly beautiful day that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Gracias Majorca!
